My Review

“Yes Man” is just another mediocre Jim Carrey vehicle that falls flat on its face. This formulaic romantic comedy not only suffers from a dull screenplay by Nicholas Stoller, Jarrod Paul, and Andrew Mogel, but tortures the audience with the obnoxious presence of Carrey’s tired routine of over-acting. He is the same in most films he is in; this project, supposedly based on a 2005 novel by Danny Wallace, bears a strange resemblance to his 1997 picture “Liar Liar.”

The rest of the cast seems to be showing up just for the paycheck: Zooey Deschanel, Bradley Cooper, John Michael Higgins, Rhys Darby, Terence Stamp, Sacha Alexander, Molly Sims, Aaron Takahashi, Fionnula Flanagan, Rocky Carroll, Vivian Bang, Luis Guzman.

Director Peyton Reed (“The Break-Up” 2006), producer Richard D. Zanuck, and Warner Bros. Pictures at least made money for their efforts. The film opened up at number one at the box office upon its release in December of 2008. However, our verdict on “Yes Man” is thumbs down. No, man, do not waste your time on “Yes Man.”
