“Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” is journalist Kim Barker’s true story of reporting from the front lines in the war in Afghanistan. She went from a script writer to on-air personality in no time, interviewing soldiers who share their combat experiences with television viewers back home in America.
Directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa (“Focus” 2015) and screenwriter Robert Carlock have an interesting film that had limited success at the box office partly due to competition from “Zootopia” and “London Has Fallen in early March of 2016. The confusing title “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” was probably also a factor.
Tina Fey has turned in the best performance of her career in this film she co-produced with Lorne Michaels and Ian Bryce for Paramount Pictures. The very capable supporting cast includes Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Christopher Abbott, Billy Bob Thornton, Alfred Molina, Evan Jonigkeit, Cherry Jones, Sterling K. Brown, Scott Takeda, Sterling K. Brown, Scott Takeda, Stephen Peacocke, and Shiela Vard.
