My Review

Barbra Streisand and Ryan O’Neal star in the modern-day screwball comedy “What’s Up, Doc?” Under the expert guidance of director Peter Bogdanovich (“The Last Picture Show” 1971), the pair does quite well in this homage to the comedies of the 1930’s and 1940’s, with a well-written screenplay by Buck Henry, David Newman, and Robert Benton.

The supporting cast includes Madeline Kahn (in her movie debut), Kenneth Mars, Austin Pendleton, Michael Murphy, Mabel Albertson, Randy Quaid, M. Emmet Walsh, John Hillerman, Sorrell Brook, Liam Dunn, Graham Jarvis, Phil Roth, and Mel Blanc as the voices of Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig.

“What’s Up, Doc?” was very successful in theatrical release for producer Peter Bogdanovich, Saticoy Productions, and Warner Bros. Pictures. It was the third highest grossing picture of the year, after “The Godfather” and “The Poseidon Adventure.”
