“What Women Want” is an uproariously funny movie about a womanizing salesman who gains the ability to read the minds of women after suffering an electric shock. He visits his therapist who encourages him to use the new found powers to his advantage, with hilarious results.
Mel Gibson is marvelous in the lead, including perfectly executing some physical comedy stunts with seemingly the greatest of ease. The talented supporting cast includes Helen Hunt, Marisa Tomei, Ashley Johnson, Mark Feuerstein, Judy Greer, Sarah Paulson, Lauren Holly, Delta Burke, Valerie Perrine, Eric Balfour, Ana Gasteyer, Loretta Devine, Logan Lerman, and Bette Midler in an uncredited role as Dr. Perkins.
Producer-director Nancy Meyers (“The Parent Trap” 1998) created this smooth-flowing and entertaining picture with the help of screenwriters Josh Goldsmith, Cathy Yuspa, and Diane Drake. The very watchable “What Women Want” from Paramount Pictures got mixed reviews from critics but was a smash hit at the box office.
