“Walt Before Mickey” is an interesting look at the early career of Walt Disney from director Khoa Le and screenwriter Arthur L. Bernstein. It was adapted from Timothy Susanin’s 2011 book “Walt Before Mickey: Disney’s Early Years, 1919-1928.”
Thomas Ian Nicholas did a good job of portraying a young Disney. It must have been a challenge for Nicholas to play an icon in his early years when he faced many challenges and setbacks, not always in an upbeat mood as we were used to seeing him in the 1950’s and 1960’s.
The supporting cast includes Jon Heder as Roy Disney, Armando Gutierrez as Ub Iwerks, Kate Katzman as Lillian Disney, as well as Owen Teague, David Henrie, Taylor Gray, Jodie Sweetin, Hunter Gomez, Ayla Kell, and Sheena Collette. The watchable “Walt Before Mickey” is an independent production that flopped at the box office.
