My Review

“Waikiki Wedding” is a Bing Crosby vehicle where he plays a publicist for a pineapple company who gets into trouble when the winner of the company’s contest fails to find romance in the islands, as advertised. So he is under pressure to provide it for her fast, with the madcap comedy proceeding from there. Director Frank Tuttle (“College Holiday” 1936) provided expert guidance at the helm of this entertaining film.

Co-stars include Shirley Ross, Bob Burns, Martha Raye, Leif Erickson, Grady Sutton, Granville Bates, Pedro Regas, Prince Leilani, Maurice Liu, Raquel Ecceverria, Iris Yamaoka, Ray Kinney, and Anthony Quinn as Kimo. Two songs from the film, “Sweet Leilani” and “Blue Hawaii,” were big hits on the music charts for Bing that year. The watchable and aloha-filled “Waikiki Wedding” was successful in theatrical release for Paramount Pictures.
