My Review

The Best Picture of 1992 is….”Unforgiven.” This western from producer-director-star Clint Eastwood is the story of a former gunfighter and outlaw who comes out of retirement for one last job. A bounty hunter wants his help in seeking a reward for apprehending renegade cowboys for an attack on a prostitute.

Eastwood crafts an excellent western film for himself to star in, which he stated would be his final western role. The movie has excellent production values, outstanding performances, beautiful scenery, and a marvelous screenplay by David Webb Peoples. The cast includes Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, Richard Harris, Jaimz Woolvett, Saul Rubinek, Francis Fisher, Anna Thompson, Rob Campbell, Anthony James, Beverley Elliot, Liisa Repo-Martell, Shane Meier, Ron White, Jeremy Ratchford, John Pyper-Ferguson, Frank C. Turner, and Lochlan Munro as Texas Slim.

“Unforgiven” was nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning four for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Gene Hackman), and Best Film Editing. One of the nominations was for the stunning cinematography by Jack N. Green, filmed on location in Alberta, Canada. It was a big success at the box office for producer Clint Eastwood, Malpaso Productions, and Warner Bros. Pictures.
