My Review

“Twins” is a buddy comedy film featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito playing twins who were separated at birth. A core element of the comedy is not only the physical contrast between the two, but the personality differences that include the streetwise DeVito and the intelligent but naive Arnold. Producer-director Ivan Reitman (“Ghostbusters” 1984) and screenwriters William Davies, Timothy Harris, William Osborne, and Herschel Weingrod did not take full advantage of their differences for comedic purposes, and the result is something of a weak product.

However, the chemistry between the two stars was enough to propel the film to box office success for Universal Pictures. Co-stars in the entertaining and watchable “Twins” include Kelly Preston, David Caruso, Chloe Webb, Bonnie Bartlett, Heather Graham, Trey Wilson, Jason Reitman (son of the producer), and veterans Hugh O’Brian and Nehemiah Persoff in their final film appearances. Ironically, both O’Brian and Persoff both made their first motion pictures in 1948.
