My Review

“Trooper Hook” is a western film about a cavalry sergeant who recues a white woman from Indian captivity. The situation is complicated by the fact that she has a five-year-old son by the tribal chief.

The stars are Joel McCrea and Barbara Stanwyck as the two principal characters. These two show biz veterans turn in their usual outstanding performances, supported by an outstanding cast that includes Earl Holliman, Edward Andrews, John Dehner, Cathleen Nesbitt, Susan Kohner, Stanley Adams, Rodolfo Acosta, Richard Shannon, Royal Dano, and Terry Lawrence as young Quinto.

Director Charles Marquis Warren did a fabulous job here keeping the cast and crew marching in lockstep for a smooth-flowing film. The lucid screenplay was written by David Victor, Martin Berkeley, and Herbert Little Jr., from a short story by Jack Schaefer. The watchable “Trooper Hook” was a joint creation of producer Sol Bear Fielding, Film Master Productions, and United Artists.
