“Torrid Zone” is an adventure film about the owner of a banana plantation in Central America having problems with employees, stirred up by a local revolutionary. The supervisor who can handle them is quitting to return to the U. S., but is distracted by an attractive singer, who also causes other kinds of problems amongst the employee population. The sparks fly from there, well handled by director William Keighley from a lean script by Richard Macauley and Jerry Wald.
The cast is headed by popular stars of the time, including James Cagney as the foreman, Ann Sheridan as the singer, and Pat O’Brien as the business owner. Also showing up on the big screen are Andy Devine, George Reeves, Helen Vinson, Jerome Cowan, George Tobias, Frank Yaconelli, Victor Killian, Dick Botiller, and Frank Puglia as police chief Juan Rodriguez.
The situation is hot and spicy in the watchable and entertaining “Torrid Zone,” successful at the box office for producer Hal B. Wallis and Warner Bros. Pictures. Legendary camera man James Wong Howe was in charge of cinematography.
