My Review

“Tora! Tora! Tora!” is a dramatization of the events leading up to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor of September 7, 1941. Directors Richard Fleicher (American sequences) and Toshio Masuda and Kinji Fukasaku (Japanese sequences) put together an excellent epic motion picture that is accurate to the last detail from the screenplay by Larry Forester (American segments) and Hideo Uguni and Ryuzo Kikushima (Japanese segments). The film also had great production values with outstanding cinematography, marvelous performances, and groundbreaking special effects.

The cast includes Martin Balsam, Joseph Cotten, E. G. Marshall, James Whitmore, Jason Robards, Leon Ames, Edward Andrews, G. D. Spradlin, Neville Brand, Ron Masak, Jeff Donnell, and Bill Zuckert. The Japanese cast is made up of So Yamamura, Tatsuya Mihashi, Takahira Tamura, and Eijrio Tono. The watchable “Tora! Tora! Tora!” was a success at the box office and seventh highest grossing movie of 1970 for Williams-Fleischer Productions, Toei Company, and 20th Century Fox. It was nominated for five Academy Awards, winning one for Special Visual Effects (L. B. Abbott and A. D. Flowers). The non-winners were for cinematography, sound, art direction, film editing.
