My Review

“Top Secret!” is a satirical comedy movie about an American singer who travels to East Germany to participate in a music festival, only to fall in love with a local girl and become involved with a resistance group. This wacky comedy from directors-screenwriters Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker is very much like their 1980 hit “Airplane!” with numerous sight gags and corny jokes that may or may not have anything to do with the plotline, such as it is.

The star of the show is Val Kilmer, in his movie debut, delivering a good performance. Co-stars include Lucy Gutteridge, Christopher Villiers, Billy J. Mitchell, Jeremy Kemp, Omar Sharif, Peter Cushing, Michael Gough, Warren Clarke, Eddie Tagoe, John Sharp, Gertan Klauber, Richard Mayes, and future television stars Jim Carter (Mr. Carson in “Downton Abbey”) and Ian McNeice (Bert Large of “Doc Martin”).

The entertaining “Top Secret!” was successful in theatrical release for Kingsmere Properties and Paramount Pictures.
