My Review

Alicia Vikander takes a stab at playing Lara Croft and comes out smelling like a rose in “Tomb Raider.” She fits right into the action-adventure genre, and does well with the inevitable comparisons to Angelina Jolie, who also portrayed Croft in two films in 2001 and 2003.

Vikander’s acting range is perfect as the young woman who embarks on a perilous journey to China in search of her father, who disappeared mysteriously. The supporting cast includes Dominic West, Daniel Wu, Kristen Scott Thomas, Walton Goggins, Nick Frost, and veteran character actor Derek Jacobi.

Norwegian director Roar Uthaug (“The Wave” 2015) kept this project on track, working with a well written screenplay by Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Alastair Siddons. The watchable “Tomb Raider” was a co-production of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Warner Bros. Pictures.
