“Three Days of the Condor” is an exciting spy thriller telling the story of a CIA researcher who returns to his job to find his co-workers have been killed. He then becomes a fugitive for three days until he figures out who he can trust. And the audience is guessing right along with him.
Robert Redford probably delivers the best performance of his career as Joseph Turner, the CIA bookworm out of his element playing spy games. The rest of the cast is top-rate: Faye Dunaway is the woman who unwillingly (at first) shelters Turner; Cliff Robertson and John Houseman are his superiors at the agency; and Max Von Sydow is a former CIA operative turned assassin for hire. Addison Powell, Tina Chen, Hank Garrett, and Russell Johnson also appear.
Production values are very high for the film thanks to executive producer Dino De Laurentiis, director Sydney Pollack (“Jeremiah Johnson” 1972), and screenwriters Lorenzo Semple Jr. and David Rayfiel, who adapted their work from the 1974 novel “Six Days of the Condor” by James Grady. “Three Days of the Condor” was popular at the box office for Dino De Laurentiis Corporation and Paramount Pictures.
