“This is Where I Leave You” is comedy-drama movie about the goings-on in a family when four adult siblings gather at their parents’ house when their father passes away. Sluggish direction by Shawn Levy (“Cheaper by the Dozen” 2003) and lackluster writing by Jonathan Tropper make this a second-rate comedy, especially when expectations are high with the big name cast.
Jane Fonda plays the widow hosting her four children, played by Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, and Corey Stoll. Other cast includes Timothy Olyphant, Rose Byrne, Kathryn Hahn, Connie Britton, Dax Shepard, Debra Monk, Abigail Spencer, Ben Schwartz, Aaron Lazar, and Will Swenson.
While there are some good moments in this picture, the overall effect is underwhelming. “This is Where I Leave You” looks like a cheap version of “Brothers and Sisters,” a television series that ran on ABC from 2006-2011. It was not a box office sensation for Warner Bros. Pictures, but can be a fair-to-middling view on DVD.
