My Review

“They Got Me Covered” is a comedy-thriller movie starring Bob Hope as a Moscow correspondent who fall out of favor with his editor when he fails to report that Germany has recently invaded Russia. Director David Butler (“Road to Morocco” 1942) crafted a good vehicle for Hope. There are laughs mixed in with melodrama in this World War II picture.

The supporting cast includes Dorothy Lamour, Otto Preminger, Lenore Aubert, Eduardo Ciannelli, Marion Martin, Donald Meek, Philip Ahn, Donald MacBride, Mary Treen, Margaret Hayes, with uncredited cameos by Bing Crosby as the music box voice and Doris Day as the beautiful girl in the sheet. You have to see the movie to get the full explanation for that!

Producer Samuel Goldwyn and RKO Pictures had some high quality people behind the scenes to ensure good production values: Harold Arlen and Leigh Harline in charge of music and Edith Head in charge of Lamour’s costumes. However, “They Got Me Covered” flopped at the box office.
