My Review

New Zealand cinema has reached its zenith with “The World’s Fastest Indian.” It is the true story of New Zealand motorcyclist Burt Munro who longs to take his act to America, and succeeds through tenacity and perseverance. New Zealand producer-director-screenwriter Roger Donaldson (“Dante’s Peak” 1997) put together this high quality and entertaining movie, seemingly singlehandedly.

The star of the show is Anthony Hopkins, carrying the movie with his engaging and winsome personality. Hopkins of the United Kingdom is always a pleasure to watch on the big screen. The supporting cast includes Diane Ladd, Paul Rodriguez, Aaron Murphy, Jessica Cauffiel, Joe Howard, Chris Bruno, and Annie Whittle. Also in the cast is Christopher Lawford, son of Peter Lawford and Patricia Kennedy Lawford, and Bruce Greenwood, who would later become famous as Christopher Pike in the “Star Trek” films of 2009 and 2013.

The watchable “The World’s Fastest Indian” was not terribly successful at the box office for 2929 Entertainment, New Zealand Film Production Fund, New Zealand Film Commission, and Magnolia Pictures.
