“The Wizard” is a family film about three youngsters traveling to California to attend a gaming convention, as the youngest, a nine-year-old, is a computer-game genius. To complicate matters, they are pursued by the boy’s father and brother and a bounty hunter. The hilarity and drama proceeds from there. This highly entertaining and family friendly movie was directed by Todd Holland and written by David Chisholm, who is also one of the producers.
The cast is headed by Luke Edwards as Jimmy “The Wizard” Woods, the gaming expert. Fred Savage and Jenny Lewis play his traveling companions, who are also his brother and sister. Beau Bridges and Christian Slater play their father and brother, with Will Seltzer, Wendy Phillips, Sam McMurray, Jackey Vinson, Marisa DeSimone, and Tobey Maguire in a small, uncredited part, his first big screen role. “The Wizard” has some modest success at the box office for The Finnegan/Pinchuk Company and Universal Pictures.
