My Review

“The Truman Show” is the story of a 30-year-old man whose whole life has been on television without his realizing it. He starts getting suspicious that something is amiss when a light from a movie set falls from the sky. Director Peter Weir (“The Year of Living Dangerously” 1982) skillfully put together this movie with a hard-to-believe premise, from a well penned screenplay by William Niccol.

Jim Carrey delivers an outstanding performance in the lead role of Truman Burbank, probably the best of his strange career. His co-stars include Laura Linney as his wife, Ed Harris as the manipulative television producer, Noah Emmerich as his best friend, Natascha McElhone as his first girl friend, Holland Taylor as his mother, as well as Paul Giamatti, Philip Baker Hall, Peter Krause, Harry Shearer, Blaire Slater, Heidi Schanz, Una Damon, Brain Delate, and John Pleshette, who became famous as a cast member of the CBS drama program “Knots Landing” (1979-1987).

The very watchable riveting drama “The Truman Show” was extremely popular at the box office for Scott Rudin Productions and Paramount Pictures. It was nominated for three Academy Awards including Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Harris), and Best Screenplay.
