My Review

“The Time Machine” is the story of a scientist who builds a time machine, and decides to visit the future, despite warnings from friends against “tempting the laws of Providence.” At first, he only travels 14 years into the future, then 40 years ahead. What he finds 800,000 years in the future is astounding. Director George Pal (“The War of the Worlds” 1953) assembled an entertaining science fiction movie with good production values, in particular, special effects, which won the Academy Award for Best Special Effects.

The screenplay by David Duncan was based on the 1895 novel “The Time Machine” by H. G. Welles. The cast includes Rod Taylor, Alan Young, Yvette Mimieux, Sebastian Cabot, Whit Bissell, Tom Helmore, Doris Lloyd, and Paul Frees as the voice of the Rings. “The Time Machine” was successful at the box office for producer George Pal and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer.
