“The Thing from Another World” is an entertaining science fiction movie about Air Force personnel and scientists discovering a UFO and an alien body frozen in Arctic ice. When they return to the base with their find, they are forced to defend themselves when the alien thaws out. Director Christian Nyby (“The Big Sleep” 1946) put together a fun film that has an interesting storyline, good production values, and a classic old fashioned horror plot from a screenplay by Charles Lederer.
The cast includes Margaret Sheridan, Kenneth Tobey, Dewey Martin, Robert Cornthwaite, Robert Nichols, William Self, Eduard Franz, Sally Creighton, and James Arness as The Thing. Arness went on to fame and fortune as Marshal Matt Dillion of CBS’s “Gunsmoke” (1955-1975). The watchable “The Thing from Another World” was popular at the box office for producer Howard Hawks, Winchester Pictures Corporation, and RKO Radio Pictures.
