My Review

Renee Zellweger delivers quite a tour-de-force performance as Pam Hupp, a Troy, Missouri, woman accused of murder in the mini-series “The Thing About Pam.” It is a true story adapted from “Dateline NBC” reports of the 2011 murder of Betsy Faria, whose husband is accused and convicted of the murder. As time goes on, some evidence piles up that he may be innocent.

The six episode series has excellent direction by three directors: Scott Winant (Ep. 1-2), Logan Kibens (Ep. 3-4), and Adam Kane (Ep. 5-6). The teleplay had seven authors: Jenny Klein, Jessika Borsiczky, Kirk A. Moore, Matt K. Turner, Adam Lash, Cori Uchida, and Travis Sentell. All worked together amazingly well together, with the total 258 minute broadcast moving swiftly partly due to the fact that the series was formatted as something of a black comedy.

The supporting cast behind Zellweger includes Josh Duhamel, Judy Greer, Gideon Adlon, Sean Bridgers, Mac Brandt, Katy Mixon, Glenn Fleshler, Olivia Luccardi, Celia Weston, and Alice Barrett-Mitchell. The familiar voice of Keith Morrison of “Dateline NBC” provided the narration. “The Thing About Pam” was broadcast on NBC-TV March 8-April 12, 2022.
