My Review

“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” is a comedy film about an editor at a book publishing company who escapes from his mundane job by engaging in elaborate daydreams. Danny Kaye is his usual winsome self in this lead role seemingly designed just for him, under the expert direction of Norman Z. McLeod (“Pennies from Heaven” 1936). The screenplay was written by Ken Englund and Everett Freeman, adapted from a 1939 short story by James Thurber.

Co-stars include Virginia Mayo, Boris Karloff, Fay Bainter, Ann Rutherford, Reginald Denny, Fritz Feld, Florence Bates, Gordon Jones, and the Goldwyn Girls. The watchable Technicolor comedy “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” was popular at the box office for producer Samuel Goldwyn and RKO Radio Pictures. An inferior remake of the same name came out in 2013 starring Ben Stiller and produced by Samuel Goldwyn Jr.
