My Review

Debbie Reynolds stars as a widow lady who relocates her family from New York City to the Arizona Territory in 1911 in the western comedy film “The Second Time Around.” Director Vincent Sherman (“The Young Philadelphians” 1959) instilled good production values in this entertaining fare.

Reynolds heads an all-star cast of popular actors, such as Andy Griffith and Steve Forrest as her gentlemen callers as well as Juliet Prowse, Thelma Ritter, Ken Scott, Isobel Elsom, Rudolph Acosta, Timothy Carey, Jack Orrison, Tom Greenway, Blossom Rock, and Eleanor Audley, later to become famous as Eddie Albert’s mom on CBS’s sitcom “Green Acres” (1965-1969).

The screenplay was written by Oscar Saul, Claire Huffaker, and Richard Emery Roberts, adapted from Roberts’ novel “Star in the West.” The plot and story are a good balance between drama and comedy. “The Second Time Around” is watchable and fun entertainment from producer Jack Cummings, Cummings-Harman Productions, and 20th Century Fox.
