“The Retirement Plan” is a comedy crime thriller movie about a woman in New York City who must send her daughter to her retired father in the Cayman Islands when she gets into trouble with criminals. Director-screenwriter Tim Brown has concocted a truly humorous thriller that has good pacing and great comedic timing by the actors.
The cast is headed by Nicholas Cage, who plays a man enjoying retirement as a beach bum when it is interrupted by the arrival of his granddaughter. Cage does a good job in this type of unchallenging comedy, which is well within his limited acting range. Co-stars include Ashley Greene as his daughter, Thalia Campbell as the granddaughter, Jackie Earle Haley as the crime boss, and Ron Pearlman as his head henchman. We won’t forget Ernie Hudson, Grace Byers, Lynn Whitfield, Joel David Moore, Jordan Johnson-Hinds, and Rick Fox, the former NBA player we have not seen for a while on the big screen.
