My Review

“The Pursuit of Happyness” is an old fashioned rags-to-riches story that we don’t see coming out of Hollywood in recent years. Will Smith was nominated for an Oscar for Best Actor for his heartfelt portrayal of a homeless man, based on a true story.

Italian director Gabriele Muccino and screenwriter Steven Conrad adapted the script from the 2006 autobiography of the same name by Chris Gardner. They did a good job of keeping the audience emotionally involved in his ups and downs. The stakes are raised because he must care for his young son, brilliantly played by Jaden Smith in his big screen debut. He obviously has gone on to bigger and better things!

The supporting cast includes Thandie Newton, Brian Howe, Dan Castellaneta, James Karen, Kurt Fuller, Takayo Fischer, and Mark Christopher Lawrence. “The Pursuit of Happyness” was a big hit at the box office for producer Will Smith, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
