My Review

“The Purge” is a story set in 2022 U. S. where an annual 12-hour event called The Purge has all police and emergency services suspended. The implication is that this yearly “free-for-all” purges the country of any criminal elements or excessive population helps keep crime and other problems low, if not completely eliminated. This slim dystopian premise of what America could be like in the near future is just an excuse for excessive violence in the film, poorly directed and written by James DeMonaco (“Staten Island” 2009).

The cast is populated by actors doing little more than reciting mediocre lines for their paycheck. They include Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Adelaide Kane, and Max Burkholder. “The Purge” was successful at the box office, and did have four sequels released in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2021. Our advise is to purge these “Purge” films from your movie-viewing schedule.
