My Review

“The Prince of Egypt” is an animated musical drama film based on the life of Moses from the book of Exodus. Many critics have called this the greatest animated film of all time, citing the superior colorful animation, voice cast, cinematography, characters, and musical score. Producer Jeffrey Katzenberg is the creator of the project, planning an animated story of Moses for many years.

The voice cast is headed by Val Kilmer as Moses and Ralph Fiennes as Rameses. They are so convincing in their performances that the viewers forget the identity of the actors. The cast also includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Jeff Goldblum, Danny Glover, Patrick Stewart, Helen Mirren, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Anne Lockhart, Ofra Haza, Francesca Marie Smith, Aria Noelle Curzon, and James Avery.

The musical performers include Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and Brian Stokes Mitchell. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards, winning one for Best Song, “When You Believe,” music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, performed by Houston and Carey. The other nomination was for Best Original Musical or Comedy Score. It was also nominated for two Grammy Awards.

The very watchable and faith-building “The Prince of Egypt” was a big hit at the box office for producer Jeffrey Katzenberg, DreamWorks Animation, and DreamWorks Pictures.
