A new version of “The Poseidon Adventure” from director John Putch is telling the same story but updates things with modern special effects and a post-9/11 emphasis on terrorism. It tells the familiar tale of the SS Poseidon capsized by a terrorist bombing, instead of a huge tidal wave. Numerous passengers are trapped and must make their way to the top, or the bottom, of the ship.
The cast includes Peter Weller as the ship’s captain, Adam Baldwin as the undercover Homeland Security agent, as well as Steve Guttenberg, Bryan Brown, Alexa Hamilton, C. Thomas Howell, Tinarie Van Wyk-Loots, Amber Sainsbury, Sylvia Sims, Alex Kingston, Clive Mantle, and Geoff Pierson as Admiral Jennings.
With a decent teleplay by Bryce Zabel, this nearly three hour made-for-television movie was first aired on NBC in November, 2005. The watchable new “The Poseidon Adventure” is well worth the second trip, especially from the safety of your living room at home!
