My Review

“The Old Barn Dance” tells the story of Gene Autry’s horse trading business being threatened by a tractor company, with tractors replacing horses for farm work. This fun Republic Pictures movie was directed by Joseph Lane, written by Bernard McConville and Charles F. Royal, and produced by Sol C. Siegel.

The Singing Cowboy’s co-stars include Smiley Burnette, Joan Valerie, Sammy McKim, Ivan Miller, Earl Dwire, and Hooper Atchley. There were musical numbers from Walt Shrum and His Colorado Hillbillies, Jo Stafford and the Stafford Sisters, the Maple City Four, and Roy Rogers, who hit the big time later in 1938 with the release of “Under Western Stars.”
