My Review

“The Nutty Professor” is a comedy movie about a timid and near-sighted chemistry teacher who discovers a potion which transforms him into a suave ladies’ man. Director Jerry Lewis was at the helm of this film in which he cast himself in the lead role. This remake and parody of the 1886 novel “Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” by Robert Lewis Stevenson has become a comedy classic and showcase for the talents of Jerry Lewis, who co-wrote the screenplay with Bill Richmond.

Co-stars include Stella Stevens, Kathleen Freeman, Del Moore, Howard Morris, Henry Gibson, Julie Parrish, Buddy Lester, Richard Kiel, and Francine York. The watchable Jerry Lewis vehicle “The Nutty Professor” was a big hit at the box office for Jerry Lewis Films and Paramount Pictures. A remake of the same name starring Eddie Murphy came out in 1996, with a 2000 sequel called “Nutty Professor II: The Klumps” from executive producer Jerry Lewis. An animated direct-to-DVD sequel to the original film, also called “The Nutty Professor,” was released in 2008 featuring Lewis.
