My Review

“The NeverEnding Story” is a unique fantasy film about a boy who becomes part of the story he is reading about in a book. Director-screenwriter Wolfgang Petersen did well in his creation of this engrossing movie, based on the 1979 German children’s novel of the same name by Michael Ende.

The child actors dominate the picture with winsome performances. Barrett Oliver did well in the lead role, Bastian Bux, the young man who wanders into a bookstore and gets more than he bargained for. Noah Hathaway also handled his part professionally, playing Atreyu, the hero of the film.

The supporting cast includes Gerald McRaney, Tami Stronach, Patricia Hayes, Sydney Bromley, Moses Gunn, Tilo Pruckner, Deep Roy, Thomas Hill, and Alan Oppenheimer as the Narrator and three other voice parts. “The NeverEnding Story” was successful at the box office for Neue Constantin Film, Bavaria Film, Producers Sales Organization, and Warner Bros. Pictures.
