My Review

“The Munsters’ Scary Little Christmas” is an entertaining made-for-television movie that does provide some laughs, and is a faithful to the series that ran on CBS for three seasons (1964-1966). Director Ian Emes and teleplay authors Ed Ferrera and Kevin Murphy did a passable job constructing this project. Producer John Landis arranged for the filming to take place at Universal Studios for MCA Television Entertainment. It was broadcast on Fox network in December 17, 1996.

The cast also did their part playing the unusual characters: Sam McMurray as Herman, Ann Magnuson as Lily, Bug Hall as Eddie, and Sandy Baron as Grandpa. All were helped by Steve Johnson’s XFX, Inc., who recreated the Munsters character makeup. Elaine Hendrix as Marilyn didn’t need much help in that department. Other cast includes Mary Woronov, John Allen, Ed Gale, Arturo Gil, Bruce Spence, Kate Fischer, Noel Ferrier as the Door Knocker, and Mark Mitchell as Santa Claus.

After scaring off the carolers, Herman returns to the kitchen. “How did the cookies go over?” asks Lily. “Like garlic bread at a vampire picnic,” replies Herman. “The Munsters’ Scary Little Christmas” should keep viewers in stiches for years to come.
