Hayley Mills plays a woman on holiday with her aunt in Greece when she gets involved with jewel thieves in “The Moon-Spinners.” Director James Nielson and screenwriter Michael Dyne actually put together a decent film with suspense reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock.
Hayley Mills moves out of her juvenile roles into more adult settings, and even gets her first on-screen kiss from Peter McEnery. Co-stars include Eli Wallach, Joan Greenwood, Irene Papas, Paul Stassino, Mel Blanc (in uncredited cat voices), and Pola Negri in her final film role as Madam Habib. She began her film career in a 1914 silent film in her native Poland.
“The Moon-Spinners” was successful at the box office for producers Walt Disney and Bill Anderson, Walt Disney Productions, and Buena Vista Distribution.
