My Review

Producer-director George Clooney (“Leatherheads” 2008) has turned out quite a gem of a motion picture in the World War II drama “The Monuments Men.” The story follows a group commissioned by the Allies to finding and securing artwork and other culturally important items before they could be destroyed by Nazi Germany. The well written screenplay by Clooney and Grant Heslov does a good job of balancing humor with the serious nature of the film’s subject matter.

The ensemble cast worked well together including George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Cate Blanchett, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville, Sam Hazeldine, Miles Jupp, and Dimitri Leonidas. Cinematographer Phedon Papamichael did a superb job with location shots in Germany and the United Kingdom, adding to the watchability of “The Monuments Men,” a moderate success at the box office for Fox 2000 Pictures and Columbia Pictures.
