Jason Statham stars as a professional assassin for hire who specializes in making his hits look like accidents or suicides. “The Mechanic” has no shortage of action and drama, well managed and evenly paced by director Simon West (“Con Air” 1997) and screenwriters Lewis John Carlino and Richard Wenk.
They could have toned down the violence just a bit to get this CBS Films product rating from R to PG13. It might have had better success in theatrical release. Statham’s co-stars include Ben Foster, Donald Sutherland, and Tony Goldwyn, grandson of movie industry pioneer Samuel Goldwyn.
