“The Martian” is an old-fashioned science fiction thriller about an America astronaut stranded on Mars and efforts on Earth to rescue him. Producer-director Ridley Scott (“Alien” 1979) and screenwriter Drew Goddard did an outstanding job with great production values and wonderful material for Matt Damon to deliver. Damon dominated most scenes of the movie. He is one of few major stars around these days that has the talent, persona, and screen presence to pull it off.
Wonderful cinematography by Darius Wolski and amazing FX also helped out, along with co-stars Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Pena, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie, Chiwetel Ejofor, Benedict Wong, Mackenzie Davis, Donald Glover, Chen Shu, and Eddy Ko.
“The Martian” was an out-of-this-world hit at the box office in September, 2015, for Scott Free Productions and 20th Century Fox.
