My Review

“The Many Saints of Newark“ is an unremarkable prequel to HBO’s “Sopranos” television show that ran for six season from 1999 to 2007.  Creator David Chase, who served as co-producer and co-writer (with Lawrence Konner) on this one, seemed to be provide movie viewers with a mere reiteration of the facts of the early years of Tony Soprano and his family than an interesting drama.

“Saints” is the result of unfocused and sloppy direction by Alan Tayler (“Terminator Genisys “ 2015) from the horrid screenplay by Chase and Konner.  The performances did not impress either, with the only interesting cast fact was that Michael Gandolfini (son of James Gandolfini) played the young Tony Soprano.  Others include Alessandro Nivola, Leslie Odom Jr., Ray Liotta, Vera Farmiga, Corey Stoll, Jon Bernthal, Billy Magnessen, Michela De Rossi, John Magaro.

The unwatchable bore “The Many Saints of Newark” was a huge failure at the box office,  disappointing Warner Bros., HBO Films, Chase Films, and New Line Cinema.
