A superior horse opera, a James Stewart vehicle, and good old fashioned fun at the picture show. All three are accurate descriptions of “The Man from Laramie,” a watchable western movie from Columbia Pictures. Stewart plays a man who delivers supplies from Laramie to Coronado, an isolated western town, and becomes embroiled in the drama there.
Jimmy Stewart is in typical form here, playing a sympathetic role with his own inimitable personality at the fore. Co-stars include Arthur Kennedy, Donald Crisp, Cathy O’Donnell, Jack Elam, Alex Nicol, Aline MacMahon, Wallace Ford, James Millican, John War Eagle, Greg Barton, Boyd Stockman, and Frank DeKova as Padre.
Great production values from director Anthony Mann (“The Glenn Miller Story” 1954), producer William Goetz, screenwriters Philip Yordon and Frank Burt, and especially the stunning cinematography in CinemaScope and Technicolor by Charles Lang. All contribute to the very watchable western “The Man from Laramie” featuring James Stewart.
