My Review

“The Magic Sword” is a fantasy adventure movie about a young man attempting to rescue a beautiful princess kidnapped by an evil wizard. This run-of-the-mill medieval drama was sloppily directed by Bert I. Gordon (“King Dinosaur” 1955) and poorly written by Bernard Schoenfeld. However, this is to be expected, as Gordon was a prolific B-movie producer-director from the 1950’s through the 1970’s.

The cast includes Gary Lockwood as the young hero, Ann Helm as the princess, Basil Rathbone as the wizard, Estelle Winwood as Lockwood’s mum, as well as Liam Sullivan, Maila Nurmi, Angelo Rossitto, Danielle De Metz, and Nick Bon Tempi and Paul Bon Tempi as the Siamese twins. The unwatchable nonsense called “The Magic Sword” was a flop at the box office for Bert I. Gordon Productions and United Artists. One positive of the picture is that is was filmed in Eastmancolor.
