“The Lookout” is a crime drama movie about a young man who is a night bank cleaner approached by a gang of bank robbers who target him as an accomplice in one of their planned thefts. When he wises up to their plans, he attempts to stop the robbery, with the drama and fireworks proceeding from there. Director-screenwriter Scott Frank (“A Walk Among the Tombstones” 2014) put together a respectable film with engrossing action sequences and good character development.
The cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the lead; he is one of the best young movie actors in the 21st century. Co-stars include Jeff Daniels, Matthew Goode, Bruce McGill, Isla Fisher, Carla Gugino, Alex Borstein, Sergio Di Zio, Laura Vandervoort, Morgan Kelly, and Albert Watson as Gordon-Levitt’s mother. The watchable “The Lookout” was a flop at the box office for Miramax Films, Spyglass Entertainment, Laurence Mark Productions, Birnbaum/Barber Productions, and Parkes+MacDonald Productions.
