My Review

Jackie Chan stars as a martial arts master and Cantonese folk hero Wong Fei-hung in “The Legend of Drunken Master.” Director Lau Kar-leung masterfully blends different fighting styles into the action of the film, including “drunken boxing,” invented just for the original “Drunken Master” movie of 1978 by star Jackie Chan and director Yuen Woo-ping. Lau Kar-leung also has numerous slapstick comedy scenes in the picture. It was filmed in Cantonese and English, with current DVD versions featuring the dialogue dubbed in English.

The outstanding screenplay was penned by producer Edward Tang. The story is set in the early 20th Century in Hong Kong, when the British were attempting to steal some artwork. The endless action, drama, and comedy proceeds from there. Co-stars include Anita Mui, Ti Lung, Felix Wong, Louis C. Roth, Therese Renee, Mark Houghton, Vincent Tuatanne, and Andy Lau. “The Legend of Drunken Master” was successful in theaters for Orange Sky Golden Harvest, Paragon Films, and the Hong Kong Stuntmen Association.
