My Review

Fans of art house cinema should enjoy producer-director Judd Apatow’s plodding drama “The King of Staten Island.” It is the story of a young man’s problems dealing with life after the death of his father and his mother’s involvement with a new boyfriend. The length of the film at two hours and seventeen minutes was definitely too long, but was tempered by the well written screenplay by Apatow, Pete Davidson, and Dave Sirus, and the fine performance by Davidson in the lead role.

The supporting cast behind Davidson includes Marisa Tomei, Bill Burr, Bel Powley, Steve Buscemi, Pamela Adlon, Jimmy Tatro, Kevin Corrigan, and Maude Apatow, daughter of the director. The watchable film “The King of Staten Island” from Judd Apatow and Universal Pictures is definitely an acquired taste.
