“The Joneses” is a comedy-drama film that covers subject matter not usually portrayed on the big screen: A team of “guerrilla marketers” who pose as a family in an upscale neighborhood to promote the sale of a wide variety of consumer products.
Producer-director-screenwriter Derrick Borte skillfully designed a movie that displays increasing drama and tension as the plot progresses to the critical stage. Not bad for the theatrical film debut of the German-born Borte.
The cast turned in some fine performances, including David Duchovny and Demi Moore as the “stealth marketing” couple, Amber Heard and Ben Hollingsworth as their children, veteran Lauren Hutton as the Jones’ boss, along with Gary Cole, Glenne Headly, Christine Evangelista, Chris Williams, Jayson Warner Smith, and Robert Pralgo.
The watchable independent movie “The Joneses” was not a hit in theatrical release in 2009, but is a good view on DVD these days.
