Christian directors Andrew Erwin and Jon Erwin (“I Can only Imagine” 2018) have put together an absorbing and comprehensive look at the history of contemporary Christian music called “The Jesus Music.”
It follows its roots in the Jesus Music of the 1970’s, Christian pop-rock of the 1980’s, Christian metal of the 1990’s, and worship music, popular in recent decades. They include interviews with Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, CeCe Winans, Kirk Franklin, Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael Tait (lead singer of Newsboys, and formerly of DC Talk), and evangelist Greg Laurie, among many others.
The fast-moving 108 minute documentary cover the five decades plus quite thoroughly, thanks to the talented Erwin Brothers, who also shared executive producer duties with Grant and Smith.
