My Review

“The Interview” was a black comedy action picture about a journalist who manages to obtain an interview with the North Korean president, and is then given the task by CIA operatives to assassinate him. The subsequent threats in real life against producers-directors Seth Rogan and Evan Goldberg were quite severe, and a hack of parent company Sony Pictures computers followed. Most theaters around the country and the world pulled the film from general release.

The film itself possessed good production values, special effects, proficient writing, good acting. However, the excessive violence and gore and bad language negated some of its better features. The screenplay was written by Dan Sterling, with the story developed by Rogan and Goldberg.

The stars of the show include James Franco as the tv journalist, Seth Rogan as his producer, Randall Park as the dictator, as well as Lizzy Caplan, Diana Bang, Timothy Simmons, Reese Alexander, Anders Holm, Charles Rahi Chun, and Ben Swartz. There were numerous cameos by celebrities including Rob Lowe, Eminem, Bill Maher, Seth Meyers, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Brian Williams, Scott Pelley, and others.

Due to the ruckus surrounding this project, “The Interview” lost money for Point Grey Pictures, LStar Capital, Columbia Pictures, and Sony Pictures Releasing.
