Blasting from the pages of DC Comics to movie screens near you is “The Green Lantern.” This is the typical super-hero story with Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, an Air Force pilot selected by the intergalactic Green Lantern Society as their agent for this sector of the universe, that includes Earth. The society has a nemesis out to destroy them, who naturally turns his attention to Hal.
So this is a chance for him to save the Earth, populated by his hapless doctor (Peter Sarsgaard), his U. S. Senator father (Tim Robbins), the government administrator in charge of alien research (Angela Bassett), the greedy industrialist (Jay O. Sanders) and his beautiful daughter (Blake Lively). Other cast includes Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Geoffrey Rush, Michael Clarke Duncan, Taika Waititi, Clancy Brown, and Mike Doyle.
In reality, Ryan Reynolds’ “The Green Lantern” cannot solve humanity’s problems, but you can get away from them for two hours with this fun escapist programming. However, “The Green Lantern” was a box office bomb for DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Pictures.
