My Review

“The Gospel” is a faith-based film that retells the New Testament story of the prodigal son in a modern day setting. Director-screenwriter Rod Hardy put together a movie with good writing and a well-paced storyline. The movie flows well and maintains the viewers interest from start to finish.

This Screen Gems-Rainforest Films co-production is set in a black church with a predomiantly African-American cast, including Idris Elba, Omar Gooding, Clifton Powell, Nona Gaye, Boris Kodgoe, Donnie McClurkin, and Keshia Knight Pulliam. Gospel singers Yolanda Adams and Kirk Franklin appear as themselves. “The Gospel” was a success at the box office.
