“The Dark Knight Rises” brings an exciting conclusion to the recent Batman film series: “Batman Begins” (2005) and “The Dark Knight” (2008). The story has Bruce Wayne coming out of retirement as Batman to save Gotham City from nuclear destruction. Producer-director Christopher Nolan, who was in charge of the entire Batman trilogy, also co-wrote the screenplay with his brother Jonathan Nolan. He kept the film running smoothly for the nearly three hour run, with a steady pace, few inconsistencies in the plot, good performances, and wrapping up any loose ends that may have needed tying up.
Much of the central cast returns for the third time. Christian Bale reprises the title character of Bruce Wayne/Batman in his signature style. Others include Michael Caine as butler Alfred Pennyworth, Morgan Freeman as Wayne Enterprises head Lucius Fox, Gary Oldman as Police Commissioner James Gordon, and Cillian Murphy as Dr. Jonathan Crane. The long list of co-stars include Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Matthew Modine, Ben Mendelsohn, Burn Gorman, Nestor Carbonell, Juno Temple, Josh Stewart, Aiden Gillen, Brett Cullen, Tom Conti, Liam Neeson, and William Devane as the President of the United States.
The very watchable and entertaining “The Dark Knight Rises” earned over one billion dollars at the box office for DC Entertainment, Syncopy Inc., Legendary Pictures, and Warner Bros. Pictures.
