“The Creator” is a science fiction film about the near future when there will be a war between the human race and the forces of AI (artificial intelligence). Producer-director Gareth Edwards (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” 2016), who also wrote the screenplay with Chris Weitz, created a movie that is full of action, fantastic special effects, and good acting, but at some points in the film is foggy on details of the film.
The cast is headed by John David Washington, the son of Denzel Washington, who does a fantastic job here. He seems to be walking into major stardom with choice roles in recent movies. Co-stars include Gemma Chan, Ken Watanabe, Allison Janney, Sturgill Simpson, Marc Menchaca, Ralph Ineson, Michael Esper, Veronica Ngo, and Madeleine Yuna Voyles as “Alphie,” a small robot with the ability to remotely control technology.
“The Creator” has done respectable numbers at the box office, but does not seem to be a runaway hit, to the disappointment of producer Gareth Edwards and 20th Century Fox.
